A sinamay hat was worn by
Mrs. Eibhilin Mhic Fhearraigh
who was judged one of the
best-dressed lady finalists
who attended the Galway
Races, a major social and
fashion event in Ireland which
draws more than 150,000
spectators in July each year.
Thursday is traditionally the
busiest and most stylish day
as ladies compete for the
coveted title of Best Dressed
Lady or Most Elegant Hat.
Mrs. Mhic Fhearraigh is a
milliner from Co Kildare and
praised "sinamay" as a very
good material for fashionable
hats. "I very much enjoy
using sinamay in hat making,
it is a very versatile material.
It was the first material I used
when I began my millinery
training," said Mrs. Mhic
Fhearraigh. She added that
she sources "sinamay" in rolls
and then block it on wooden
hat blocks (that come in a
range of shapes and sizes).
She made the hat she worn at the
Races (see photo). |
