27 October 2011- Irish President Mary McAleese at a farewell reception in the Presidential Palace, expressed her sorrow for the tragic death of Filipina hospital worker Celia Ferrer de Jesus and requested Ambassador Ariel Y. Abadilla to relay the President’s condolences to the family of Celia and to the Filipino community. Many Filipinos in Ireland are nurses and hospital employees. Last Monday’s unusually heavy rain in Dublin caused rivers and canals to overflow which resulted in a strong surge of flood waters trapping Celia in her basement apartment.
