PHILIPPINE EMBASSY HOLDS A SPECIAL FORUM ON IMMIGRATION ISSUES

A  roundtable discussion on immigration issues was held at the Philippine Embassy on 28 January 2011 attended by the leaders and representatives from various Filipino community organizations in Ireland.

Through the invitation of the Embassy, officials from the Department of Justice, Department of Enterprise Trade and Innovation, Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), and the Immigrant Council of Ireland, gave presentations and answered questions covering the various concerns of the Filipinos in Ireland.

In highlighting the importance of the event, Ambassador Ariel Y. Abadilla said that "the Embassy is pleased to facilitate this dialogue to enable the Filipino community representatives to have an updated and better understanding of current Irish government policies which they can disseminate to their membership; as well as for the Irish officials to be aware of the concerns of the community".

The roundtable discussion followed immediately after the Annual General Assembly of the Filipino Community Network (FCN), an umbrella group of Filipino organizations, which was also held at the Embassy.
